All Saints 2011

I think this is fast becoming one of my favorite Swedish holidays. We went out the cemetery Saturday evening around 5 pm. It is just so pretty with all the candles that are lit in memory for those we loved and who are not with us any longer. People start coming and lighting their candles already during the day but the majority come after sunset or at dusk (shortly before 4 pm).I read in the paper that this is a Celtic tradition that was adopted into Sweden during the 1930:ties.

This year me and C went together with his sister and her family as well as with C´s two cousins. We were all invited to his cousin for coffee and "fika" before we drove out to the cemetery in Sollentuna where C´s grandmother and grandfather have their grave.

So many candles. Hundreds or easily even thousands of them lit at every cemetery. It is just so beautiful and pretty. The atmosphere is just filled with warmth and love for the ones we remember but who are not with us any longer. Some of the candles have a little notes written and posted on them. Flowers, plenty of flowers to.

I think the loved ones who have passed on must smile up in heaven on this particular night.

If your loved ones or relatives don't have a grave you can always light a candle at "minneslunden". Here they had a little pond and the reflection of the candles against the water made it even more beautiful.

There was a small chapel you could enter. It was so warm and cozy in there with all the candles burning. I did light a candle for my loved ones that have passed away. The candles standing here are a great symbol of life. Some are burning brightly while others are fading. Some stand tall and still have a long time left to burn while others are running out of time. That is it, you never know how long your own candle will burn here in life. So it is important to take care of time and days. Don't just let them pass by but fill them with the things that matter to you, that make you happy.

Here you could sit down and have a quiet moment. Warmth and comfort. Sending a thought and a prayer to the ones you love.

Kram!
